This post focuses exclusively on key topics specifically, Supergirl 2026 movie review and honest first reactions. Packed with essential information, it will serve as a guide to help you decide whether to watch the film.

So, I just returned from the theater after watching the 2026 Supergirl movie. Have you seen it too? Although the film was released yesterday June 26th I watched it today, June 27, 2026. To be honest, I personally really like the DC Universe; I actually prefer it over the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But is simply liking the DC Universe enough? Did I actually enjoy this specific movie? We’ll discuss that in detail below. I’ll be reviewing the film and talking about the new experiences both the good and the bad that it offers. So, I’d really like you to read this post all the way to the end.

We have already watched all the DC Universe content, such as Peacemaker and Creature Commandos. Now, following Superman, the Supergirl movie has arrived in theaters. The Supergirl movie is based on the comic book titled Woman of Tomorrow.

Story of the Supergirl (2026)

Let’s talk about the story now without any spoilers. Kara our Supergirl, whom we previously saw in the post-credits scene of the Superman movie arrives on Earth following the destruction of her home planet. There, she meets Clark, our hero Superman. However, she does not view Earth the way Superman does; consequently, she cannot bring herself to consider it her home. Fleeing from her responsibilities, she travels to another planet with a red sun where the absence of a yellow sun means having no superpowers, as both Superman and Supergirl derive their abilities from the yellow sun.

Supergirl likes to run away from her responsibilities. She is far more interested in drinking and partying, and consequently, she has no desire to fulfill her duties. That is why she prefers living on a planet with a red sun essentially, she enjoys having a good time without the burden of superpowers. On Earth, she wouldn’t be able to get truly wasted because her superpowers prevent her from getting drunk.

Now, after arriving on the planet, ‘Krem of the Yellow Hills’ and ‘Ruthye Marye Knoll’ enter Supergirl’s life. Why are these two characters in the story? How does Kara our Supergirl get involved in all of this? And how does our favorite actor Jason Momoa or rather, the comic book character Lobo connect to this movie? To find out, you will have to watch the entire film.

I really enjoy DC Universe movies like Batman and Superman but the Supergirl movie I watched today was just okay; it didn’t particularly impress me. To put it in percentage terms, I liked 50% of it, while the other 50% didn’t appeal to me at all. Your opinion might differ, of course you might end up liking it or not. While the film fits the superhero, action, adventure, sci-fi, and drama genres, it completely lacks the impact or feeling I experienced when watching the Superman movies.

As for the movie’s story, it isn’t complicated at all keep that in mind. It is a simple story; if you have watched Star Wars: The Mandalorian, you will get the idea. It has a straightforward plot that is easy to grasp.

Direction, Cinematography, Color Grading and Action Sequences

While the direction, cinematography, and color grading are decent and certainly worth discussing they don’t quite reach the level of being spectacular; so, keep that in mind. I have to admit, though, that I didn’t particularly care for the action choreography in this movie. The hand-to-hand combat sequences could have been better, though you might still enjoy them.

The action sequences are well-crafted, and a genuine effort has been made to build Supergirl’s character through them. Just as we have seen Superman embrace responsibility, Supergirl is portrayed with a similar sense of responsibility.

Final Verdict

There is one final scene I would specifically like to mention and this isn’t a spoiler where the Supergirl character receives a really good build-up. For the Indian audience, one thing is certain: I watched the Hindi-dubbed version, and the dubbing is excellent, so you certainly won’t face any issues watching it in Hindi.

I wouldn’t go so far as to say Supergirl (2026) is an excellent movie, but it is certainly worth a one-time watch. If you enjoy superhero films, I’d say go for it. Do watch the movie and let us know what you thought in the comments; alternatively, you can share your experience with us via email.
