We always eagerly await the arrival of Sundays and the release of new episodes of Lanterns (2026). I don’t know about you, but I personally look forward to every single episode. Well, the fresh new Episode 6 of Lanterns (2026) has arrived, and I watched it this morning; now, we are going to discuss what the episode was like. Without giving away any spoilers, we will talk about the storytelling, performances, and visuals. Now, let’s move on to our exclusive topic: Lanterns Episode 6 Review The Gardner Hides A Secret.
Story of Lanterns: Episode 6
As for the story, it delivers a major surprise in the form of a time jump. We see events unfolding ten years after the “Manhunter” incident in Rushville. John Stewart has moved far away from the life of a Green Lantern and has completely transformed his own life. He is now running a successful business with his brother, Marcus, designing high-security panic rooms. It is ironic: John Stewart, who once fought fearlessly as a Green Lantern to combat fear itself, is now selling safe rooms to help people escape fear.
This may seem like a small detail, but the makers have crafted John Stewart’s character and presented it exceptionally well. John wants to move on from his superhero days and keep his distance from the Green Lantern identity, but the problem is that his past refuses to let go.

The big question of Episode 6: Where is Hal Jordan?
This question becomes crucial in Episode 6. We saw Hal Jordan dead at the end of Episode 1, and Episode 6 raises even more questions regarding his death. The episode reveals numerous unanswered questions surrounding the circumstances of his demise. Hal Jordan was killed by a gunshot wound in Rushville a detail that makes the situation highly suspicious, especially given the serious conflict between Hal and John that we witnessed in Episode 5. Consequently, John Stewart could be considered the primary suspect in Hal Jordan’s death.
However, the focus of Episode 6 isn’t merely on whether John Stewart is innocent or guilty; instead, the episode reveals and makes us feel that there may be a significant, serious connection behind Hal Jordan’s death. Ultimately, it is this mystery that makes Episode 6 so compelling.
John Stewart’s character in Episode 6?
It wouldn’t be wrong to say that the standout element of Episode 6 is John Stewart’s character. The episode takes us to Rushville after a ten-year gap, revealing significant changes in John. He has a complicated relationship with his family and has become emotionally withdrawn. Crucially, he appears to have all but abandoned the responsibility of being a Green Lantern. However, one cannot ignore the fact that following Hal Jordan’s death, John’s sense of duty is reignited; he becomes determined to give Hal a proper Lantern burial.
In pursuit of this burial, our hero John Stewart attempts to retrieve Hal Jordan’s Lantern ring and technology. This raises a major, intriguing question: has John Stewart truly moved on from the life of a Green Lantern, or is he merely trying to convince himself that he has?
Guy Gardner’s entry in Episode 6 is a pivotal moment in the episode.
Speaking of the most exciting introductions, Guy Gardner’s exclusive debut in Episode 6 stands out. If you are a DC fan, you have likely seen Superman and, consequently, are familiar with Guy. In this episode, Guy is established as the current Green Lantern. This creates an interesting irony: while our hero, John Stewart, feels the immense weight of responsibility and the rigors of training required to be a Green Lantern, Guy’s ascent to the role appears completely effortless.
This creates a compelling contrast between the two. On one hand, there is John Stewart, who takes the responsibility with the utmost seriousness; on the other, there is Guy Gardner, whose attitude and personality set him completely apart from John.
What is the tone of the episode?
The most interesting aspect of Episode 6 and something crucial to discuss is its tone. While Episode 5 featured massive destruction and intense chaos, the pace suddenly slows down in Episode 6.
The people of Rushville remain traumatized by the events involving the Lantern, and Hal Jordan is dead. John Stewart has completely transformed from the person he was in the past, while Guy Gardner has emerged as a Green Lantern; in many ways, Episode 6 acts almost like a reset.
Is Episode 6 perfect?
Everything is going well, and Episode 6 feels like a reset of sorts; does that mean it is perfect? The answer is no it is certainly not perfect. Personally, I found the slow pacing and the time jump a bit unusual. Episode 6 raises many questions without providing answers.
However, if you view it as a slow-burn mystery, this episode becomes crucial. It doesn’t focus on the relationship between Hal Jordan and John Stewart; instead, it introduces Guy Gardner as a new Green Lantern. This marks the entry of elements like Hal’s digital consciousness and broader aspects of Green Lantern mythology elements we are likely to see more of in future episodes.
Final Verdict
Overall, Episode 6 titled “Bad Optics” doesn’t feel like a typical superhero episode; instead, it is a character-driven mystery. We witness a new side of John Stewart, largely because the episode opens with a ten-year time jump a development that came as a huge surprise to me.
From my perspective, the primary purpose of Episode 6 is to reset the stage for the show’s final stretch. Moving forward, the mystery isn’t just about who killed Hal Jordan; other questions arise: Can John Stewart become a Green Lantern again? What is Guy Gardner’s role? Furthermore, just how crucial will the information revealed by Hal Jordan’s digital version be? We will likely find the answers to these questions in the upcoming episodes.

My Rating
Personally, I found Episode 6 to be a great experience, featuring impressive visuals. I am eager to watch the entire show and look forward to it every Sunday. The creators deserve praise for revealing some of the mysteries; key questions raised in this episode include the situation surrounding Guy Gardner and the circumstances of Hal Jordan’s death. Additionally, the episode effectively explores how John Stewart’s life has completely changed, which further enhances the storytelling. I am giving Episode 6 a rating of 4/5.
