Episode 2 of Lanterns (2026) has been released, and having watched it, I’m here to tell you whether or not you should check it out. The best thing about the show is that it doesn’t rush to reveal its story; instead, we see the characters, the investigation, and the Green Lantern mythology all developing simultaneously. The story and Mystry of Lanterns (2026)
Episode 2 is essentially about setting up the mystery, and it succeeds brilliantly in doing so. The show expands upon the questions raised, an approach I really appreciated, as it makes the mystery feel even more compelling. While creators of other superhero shows often rush to explain the mythology early on, Lanterns takes a completely different approach. This creates a persistent feeling that something massive something truly significant is unfolding. It is evident that the show is building a long-form mystery, which promises to be fantastic.
An interesting aspect of Episode 2 is that the show doesn’t place its superhero identity front and center; instead, it maintains a grounded approach, feeling more like a detective thriller. Hal Jordan and his trainee, John Stewart, are seen investigating a mass shooting, with the objective of proving that significant alien involvement lies behind the incident. Furthermore, as the story progresses, we witness meaningful development in the relationship between Hal Jordan and John Stewart. While we know Hal Jordan is a seasoned Green Lantern and John is still learning, Hal doesn’t exactly act like a traditional mentor; he displays an attitude suggesting that John can only become a Green Lantern if he proves capable of surviving alongside him.
At the end of episode 1, we see Hal Jordan’s dead body in the timeline of 2026 and the green lantern ring is also missing from him. Now in the episode we get to see the pressure of this mystery increasing even more. Look, this is a DC show, we will not get answers to anything immediately. That show keeps us asking a lot of questions. And this is what I like best about this show Lanterns (2026).
Action and Green Lantern Elements
You might be wondering how much action to expect in Episode 2. It’s hard to answer this without spoilers, but simply put, the show is gradually introducing the Green Lantern identity.
We don’t see a lot of action because, rather than packing the show with massive CGI sequences, it focuses on establishing the characters and their mysteries first. This approach ensures that the major moments to come later will have a greater impact.
If you are watching Episode 2 specifically for action, it might feel somewhat restrained. That was my impression watch it yourself and let me know what you think.
What Works and What Doesn’t
In Episode 2, the chemistry between the characters is excellent. A mystery is being built up a major component of the show without providing immediate answers; instead, it relies on piquing curiosity, which works very well for the series. Regarding the atmosphere, the show feels grounded, setting it completely apart from typical superhero shows.
As for weaknesses, the pacing stands out; I also felt the show moves quite slowly. If you are expecting a show packed with intense superhero action, you might not find much of it in the first two episodes though that may change in future installments. The show primarily raises questions, so upcoming episodes will need to ensure they deliver satisfying answers to the queries formed in the audience’s minds.

This show focuses more on mystery and character development than on action. The chemistry between Hal Jordan and John Stewart is incredibly strong. Although it is a superhero show, I personally find its grounded tone very interesting.
It is a “slow-burn” mystery series; if you enjoy that kind of show, you should definitely consider watching it. However, if you are looking for Green Lantern powers and intense action, you will need to be patient we might see those elements in future episodes, just as I am expecting.

I really liked Episode 2 because it sparks curiosity and raises significant questions in our minds which is great though I do hope that, moving forward, we get satisfying answers to those questions. I am giving Episode 2 a rating of 4/5.
