Say what you will, but I really enjoyed the new trailer or rather, the “Special Look” for Avengers: Doomsday, and I hope you’ve watched it too. If you’re a Marvel Studios fan and haven’t seen this, then what have you seen? So, today we’re going to break down this special look and see exactly what was revealed in the trailer. Here is the full breakdown with exclusive topic: Avengers: Doomsday Special Look New Trailer: Every Detail Explained.
Marvel Studios released a new trailer for Avengers: Doomsday during D23, which is being referred to as a “Special Look.” While the previous trailer we saw ran for 2 minutes and 25 seconds, this “Special Look” version clocks in at 2 minutes and 10 seconds. Honestly, I found this “Special Look” trailer to be more impactful than the original one; I feel Marvel Studios should have released this version first. This is the same trailer that was shown at San Diego Comic-Con which had leaked earlier and was likely seen by many but what matters now is that we are officially viewing it as a “Special Look.” Upon closer inspection, you realize just how many details are packed into the trailer. However, don’t you think this “Special Look” trailer raises more questions than it answers? It certainly sparked a lot of questions for me let’s discuss the details further.
Doctor Doom Seated on His Throne
The trailer opens with Susan Storm setting the stage for the presence of Victor Von Doom (Doctor Doom). She describes him as the smartest person in any room, and we see him seated on his throne. Upon closer inspection, the throne room belongs to Doom’s castle Doomstadt and the background imagery matches what we have seen in the Avengers: Doomsday logo and promotional material.
When we see Doctor Doom on his throne, there is a circular fire burning on the floor in front of him. This throne room was previously showcased at Comic-Con; the markings on the floor are runes that Doom uses to cast his spells, and here we see them in action. If you look closely, you can see green flames rising from them. Throughout the trailer, whenever Doctor Doom uses his powers, they appear in green.
Marvel Runes: Secrets and Mysteries Revealed
If you watched the WandaVision series, you might recall a clarification regarding “runes”: if a magic user casts runes in a specific area, only the caster can use magic within that space. Similarly, the runes Doctor Doom casts on his floor serve as a form of protection. Consequently, if anyone enters Doom’s castle, they cannot use their own magic unless Doctor Doom permits it. Following this, we see Susan Storm speaking about Doctor Doom; she describes him as having been different kind and caring while tears stream down her face. This raises two distinct possibilities:
- Susan Storm shares an emotional connection with this version of Doctor Doom. This is quite plausible given the way she describes him; it suggests she may have witnessed his transformation into a true villain and is struggling to come to terms with it.
- The second possibility is that she has suffered a loss perhaps witnessing a member of the Fantastic Four die or vanish. This could explain why she is so emotional and tearful.
We will have to wait for the film to see which of these possibilities turns out to be true, though the first one seems more likely to me.
Doctor Doom From Earth-828
But one thing is becoming very clear: Doctor Doom belongs to Earth-828 the Fantastic Four’s Earth; that much is certain. Otherwise, how would Susan Storm know so much about Doctor Doom? It’s not even a matter worth questioning.
When Susan is delivering her speech about Doctor Doom, characters like Magneto and Gambit are shown. At first glance, it appears as though everyone is in the same room listening to her; however, if you look closely at the backgrounds, there is a distinct difference suggesting that the other characters are actually aboard the Fantastic Four’s ship. This implies that Susan isn’t telling her story to them, but rather to someone else entirely.
It is possible that Susan is telling the story to Steve Rogers because it is necessary to establish a connection between Steve Rogers and Doctor Doom.
We also get to see more details about Doctor Doom in this trailer, such as his eyes appearing a vivid green. While his eye color varies in the comics often depicted as brown many writers and artists choose to make them green to simplify the visual representation of his magic. It is possible that Doctor Doom has become so deeply bound to magic that his eye color has shifted to match the green hue of his energy signature.
Doctor Doom Before the Portrait
Next, we see Doctor Doom standing before a portrait; this scene aligns with Susan’s voiceover suggesting that he has changed and suffered a loss. The portrait most likely depicts Doctor Doom’s family. There are two possibilities here:
- The portrait shows Doctor Doom’s wife and child, who perished due to an Incursion or some other multiversal calamity.
- The second possibility is that the portrait depicts him and his mother. He might have lost his mother to a multiversal calamity or an Incursion, driving him to want the entire multiverse to pay the price for that loss.
This aligns perfectly with the comic books, as Doctor Doom’s sole objective in life is to bring his mother back to life.
Wakandans Enter Talokan’s Throne Room
Next, we see the Wakandans in the trailer standing, I believe, in Talokan’s throne room with Namor present in the background as the team converses with someone; however, it is unclear exactly who they are speaking to.
Next, we see New York City, which has been almost completely destroyed likely the result of a battle. If you look closely at the shot, it appears as though something massive crashed there; buildings are on fire and everything is in ruins. At one point, it even looks like a plane crash. The question is, what place is this? It could possibly be the X-Men’s Earth, and the crashed aircraft might be the X-Men’s plane.
Now, let’s look at the shot of Loki; it features the same background we saw in the earlier trailer. This is likely Steve Rogers’ home, and Steve himself is also shown at that same location in this trailer.
Doctor Doom’s Epic Superhero Landing
Then we see Doctor Doom jump out of the window and pull off an awesome “superhero landing” with incredible aura and believe me, I was absolutely blown away when I first saw that trailer. However, while the landing itself was perfect, it looks like Doctor Doom might have been struck by someone; he was upside down when he first burst through the window, but by the time he executed that flawless landing, it seems he had been hit. Who could possibly possess the power to strike Doctor Doom like that? We’ll have to watch the movie to find out.
Doctor Doom Revives the Sentinels
We see Doctor Doom blast the ground, generating waves and visible green flames; he also reanimates all the Sentinels present there. When he blasts the ground, black dots appear signifying either dark magic or a fusion of magic and technology. It is also possible that magic alone was not enough to reanimate the Sentinels.
So, that was the breakdown of the special look at Avengers: Doomsday. I personally felt this trailer was better than the previous one; I really enjoyed watching it and thought it was fantastic. Just as you are all eagerly awaiting this film, I am too and the good news is that we will soon get the chance to see the movie that every Marvel fan is waiting for.
