News coverage highlighted a major event held at Bharat Mandapam New Delhi on July 18, 2026, for the official trailer of Ramayana (2026). Numerous prominent celebrities, media personnel, influencers, and YouTubers were invited to this event.
At this grand event, almost all guests received a Ramayana movie comic book, and many people have shared photos of it on social media. I have checked everywhere, but the comic book is not yet available online. It might become available later, but for now, it was distributed only to the major celebrities present at the event. This comic book reveals many details about the Ramayana movie, and we will discuss these aspects one by one.
Let’s start with the official cast, who have done a tremendous job for this movie. Ranbir Kapoor is set to play the role of Shri Ram; notably, he will also portray Lord Parashurama and Lord Vishnu, meaning we will see him in three distinct roles in this film.
Next, South Indian actress Sai Pallavi will play the role of Mother Sita. Ravie Dubey is cast as Lakshman—a choice I would call not just tremendous but perfect, given his striking resemblance to Ranbir Kapoor. I am highlighting the key details about the cast here.
It is unclear how much truth there is to this—since we haven’t seen the trailer—but sources suggest that Lord Hanuman will not appear in the trailer, though he might feature in the movie itself. This is because Sunny Deol was spotted at the event on the 18th, and he is the one playing the role of Lord Hanuman.
Arun Govil will play the role of King Dasharatha. Adinath Kothare—son of the renowned Marathi film actor Mahesh Kothare—will play the role of Bharat, Lord Shri Ram’s brother. A new actor, Nitish Sharma, will play the role of Shatrughna; it will be interesting to see what he brings to the screen. Indira Krishnan will play Mother Kaushalya—an actress whose face always radiates happiness and maternal warmth—and, of course, we know that Lord Shri Ram is Mother Kaushalya’s son.
Then there is Lara Dutta, who will play the role of Kaikeyi. It was Kaikeyi who decreed Lord Shri Ram’s 14-year exile, and I sincerely believe she is a perfect choice for this role. Finally, actress Sonal Jha will play the role of King Dasharatha’s third wife and the mother of Lakshman and Shatrughna. Additionally, Sheeba Chaddha will play the role of Manthara—the maid who incites Kaikeyi—and I can say she is a perfect choice for the part. Saurabh Sachdeva, an immensely talented actor, will play the role of Ravana’s maternal uncle, Mareecha. We will also see Kunal Kapoor in the film, portraying the role of Lord Indra.
The brilliant actor Anupam Kher is lending his voice to the character of Jatayu; there is also a possibility that we might hear his voice narrating the film.
Our beloved actor—who won our hearts with blockbusters like KGF and is known as ‘Rocking Star’ Yash—will play the pivotal role of Ravana, while Shobana Pillai will portray Ravana’s mother, Kaikesi. Kajal Aggarwal will play the role of Ravana’s wife, Mandodari. Rakul Preet Singh will portray Shurpanakha—Ravana’s sister, whose nose gets cut off in the story—while Vivek Oberoi will play the role of her husband, Vidyutjihva.
Next, the role of Ravana’s brother Kumbhakarna will be played by Faisal Malik, a fantastic actor and a perfect choice for the film. Harish Uthaman will play the role of Ravana’s noble brother, Vibhishana.
Let us now discuss the sages, who are crucial characters. Shishir Sharma will play the role of the chief sage Vashishtha, who provided guidance to King Dasharatha. Famous Marathi actor Ajinkya Deo will portray Sage Vishwamitra, the mentor to King Dasharatha and his sons. Mukesh Tiwari will play the role of Sage Agastya, who assists Lord Shri Ram during his exile.
Additionally, we will see two demons in the film: Kanchan Chetal playing Tadaka and Parmindar Chhada playing Subahu; the characters Khar and Dushan will also appear.
So, that covers the cast. Beyond the characters, the comic book illustrates and explains many other elements—such as concept art showing what the entire city of Ayodhya would look like. Just as we will get to see concept art for the city of Ayodhya, we will also see it for Lanka—and that Lanka will be made of gold. This book also mentions Mithila, the birthplace of Mother Sita. Additionally, the comic book depicts Chitragupta, a place where Lord Shri Ram stayed during the early phase of his exile.
The designs for Dandakaranya and Panchavati are also spectacular. Panchavati was the place where the second abode was established during the period of exile; it was also from here that Ravana abducted Mother Sita—a scene depicted realistically in the comic book.
In terms of facts, the book is designed so that even someone who is not a devotee of Lord Shri Ram—or lacks basic knowledge of this journey—can gain a fundamental understanding through it.
The comic book covers Lord Shri Ram’s entire journey, including all significant locations from his birth to Ravana’s Lanka. It features places such as Ayodhya (his birthplace), Mithila (his marriage to Mother Sita), and the various sites visited during his exile—Chitrakoot, Panchavati, Dandakaranya, and finally, Lanka.
Additionally, the comic book depicts the family trees of both Lord Shri Ram (in Ayodhya) and Ravana (in Lanka), which will likely make it easier for readers to understand the relationships between the various characters.
Bollywood has done a tremendous job here; the approach mirrors that of Hollywood. For the first time in Bollywood, we are seeing a movie accompanied by a comic book designed to help audiences understand the story. A major advantage of the comic book is that it provides detailed information. If you are unfamiliar with Lord Shri Ram and his journey—or if you belong to a different faith—it is highly recommended to read the comic book before watching the movie. Watching a film does not diminish the stature of your faith or the love and respect you hold for it; one should respect all religions while enjoying the movie. Although there is still quite some time before the film’s release, we eagerly await the trailer.
